UKZN Alumni Relations hosted an Afternoon Tea and Dinner in Cape Town for alumni based in the region. The afternoon tea took place at the elegant Alphen Hotel, while the dinner was held at the prestigious Vineyard Hotel.

Alumni Relations Manager, Finn Christensen, welcomed attendees and provided updates on the university’s recent activities, ongoing infrastructure developments, and the impact of Project Renewal.

The highlight of the dinner was a talk by distinguished UKZN alumnus Neil Andrew and his wife, Rozi Andrew, who is also a UKZN graduate. Neil and Rozi are the founders of the successful Baby Food Company, launched in 2006. Starting with just 10 employees, the company has since grown to employ 66 staff members and has received three industry awards, including the Product of the Year for fresh baby food in South Africa. They produce a wide range of baby foods, sports nutrition products, and ingredients for other brands, delivering 80 product lines weekly, amounting to 50 tons per month.

During their talk, Neil and Rozi emphasized the importance of systemization, documentation, and cash flow management in running a successful business. They also shared insights into maintaining operations during COVID-19, adapting to shifts in product demand, and meeting Woolworths’ high-quality standards. Additionally, they discussed the unique challenges of managing a family business.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for alumni to reconnect, network, and engage over dinner and drinks, strengthening ties within the UKZN community.
