UKZN College of Humanities Roundtable Discussion and Book Launch – Tuesday, 15 August 2023
The School of Education in the College of Humanities, in collaboration with UKZN Press and KZN Education Development Trust, cordially invites you to a roundtable discussion and book launch.
In South Africa, teacher unions have been significant stakeholders in the education sector and have had considerable influence on the transformation of education. This notwithstanding, some teacher unions have come under fire for putting the interests of their members above that of the rights of learners, have been criticized for shielding members who engage in unethical conduct and have been accused of using schools to further political ends. In this roundtable, we grapple with some of these issues and more by drawing on the expertise of teacher unionists, academics, practitioners and researchers.
The roundtable discussion will be followed by the launch of the book SADTU and the struggle for professional unionism (UKZN Press).
